The_Mekong_River_Delta_Economic_Zone_-_2VIETRADE - The Mekong River Delta Key Economic Zone (MeKEZ) is the dynamically developed area of the Mekong River Delta (MeRD). It includes four provinces/cities of Can Tho, An Giang, Kien Giang and Ca Mau, covering an area of over 16,600 square kilometers and having a population of about 6.4 million people. Like the MeRD, the MeKEZ is favored by nature with favorable conditions on climate, land, and sceneries that help earn itself the reputation of “the nine-dragon land” in the Southeast Asia and all over the world. Thanks to advantageous geographical conditions, these four localities hold dominant potentialities of the whole Southwestern area.

These four localities are the “big rice container” of the national biggest granary. Rice not only brings prosperity to people of the Southwestern area, being main force for exportation, but also ensures the national food security.

With an immense sea and a system of interlace rivers and canals, the MeKEZ is a storage of profound aquatic products with many specialties. An Giang is well-known for catfish and basa fish. Besides, covering an area that is as large as Singapore and lying far in a calm gulf, Phu Quoc could probably become a commercial-service center of regional and international stature. A Can Tho with “white rice and clear water” used to be the Western City–the capital city of the Southwestern area.

This region is also the limitless ever-luxuriant fruit garden. The regional vegetables are present in all localities of the country and have been exported to other countries in fresh, dry, canned and frozen forms. Cai Rang Floating Market can make people feel dizzy with many kinds of colorful fruits. Visitors would probably not be able to squeeze between the bags of brimful and fragrant fruits at Ninh Kieu Market. Along the river routes from Ca Mau City to the far end of the country, visitors can easily recognize the populousness and prosperity of the peninsula.

The three provinces of An Giang, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau have sea and land borders with Cambodia. Therefore, since the day of opening border gates with this neighboring country, the trade between the region and Cambodia has become more and more bustling.

Craftsmen of small industrial enterprises have spiritualized the raw materials and made them become beloved products.
