Industrial parks and Industrial clusters in Can Tho Province - Part 2

Veconomic_situation_in_Cantho_City_-_7IETRADE - Industrial Clusters (ICs)

- Cai Son–Hang Bang IC: 38.2 ha, lying in An Binh Ward, Ninh Kieu District. There are 17 businesses investing in the IC; 25.24% of the industrial land has been filled (most the businesses are those from the inner city moving out). At the present, these businesses are still in good operational situation. However, the bad condition of bridges and roads has worried them a lot.

 

- Vinh Thanh IC (49.2 ha): having planned in details on a scale of 1/500 and is being under construction.

 

-Binh Thuy IC (44.5 ha): having planned in details on a scale of 1/500, and is proceeding with the ground clearing and leveling.

 

- O Mon IC (30.71 ha): having planned in details on a scale of 1/500, and is proceeding with the ground clearing and leveling.

 

Plan for the concentrated ips and ics of Can Tho city in the period of 2011-2020 with the orientation to 2025 By 2020, there would have been 6 new IPs and ICs formed, in which, there will be hi-tech zones, raising the total of concentrated technological zones to 10 with the total area of 3,680 ha. Some other ICs would be developed, raising the total area for industrial land to 4,000 ha.

 

-The period of 2011-2015: There will be 6 new IPs built and 1 IP widened with the total area of about 2,380 ha in the direction of Ha River towards the north of O Mon and Thot Not Districts. The estimated quality and scale are as follows:

+ Thot Not IP, more than 600 ha will be enlarged.

+ O Mon IP, 600 ha.

+ North O Mon IP, 400 ha.

+ 1 hi-tech zone, 500 ha.

+ Can Tho City’s concentrated information technological zone, 100 ha.

+ O Mon Electric Power IP, 170 ha.

+ O Mon, Tra Noc Gas Distributing IP, 10 ha.

 

These following ICs will be established: O Mon (30 ha), Cai Rang (49 ha), Binh Thuy (45 ha), Vinh Thanh (49 ha), Co Do (30 ha) and Phong Dien (30 ha).

 

- The period of 2016-2020: 4 IPs will be enlarged with the estimated quantity and scale as follows:

+O Mon IP, 200 ha.

+Thot Not IP, 600 ha.

+ Co Do IP, 500 ha.

+ More than 500 ha will be enlarged at the hi-tech zone.

 

-The period of 2021-2025: More than 500 ha will be enlarged at the hi-tech zone. Therefore, by 2025, Can Tho City will have had about 5,630 ha of industrial land, in which, there are 1,500 ha for the hi-tech zone.

 

Foreign affairs economy

Over the past five years from 2006 to 2010, Can Tho City has issued 35 certificates of investment with the total registered capital of US$ 631.6 million, making an increase of US$ 58 million in the invested capital; there are 21 investment licenses revoked with the total registered capital off US$ 76.5 million. By the end of 2010, there are 48 FDI investment licenses still in validity with the total registered capital of US$ 764.88 million, the effectuated capital makes up 24.1% of the registered capital. 67.7 million dollars and 16.23 million dollars have been received from the official development aid (ODA) and non-governmental organizations (NGO), respectively.

Socio-economic infrastructure construction

- Economic infrastructure:

Several major works have been completed and put into operation, such as Can Tho Airport (upgraded and widened from the former Tra Noc Airport), Cai Cui Port (stage 1), Can Tho Bridge, Vò Thanh Town–Can Tho City route (stage 1, the section belonging to Can Tho City), Ma Than Street–Tra Noc Airport route, Bon Tong–Mot Ngan route (stage 1), provincial roads of 921, 923, 926, 932 (including bridges), national road 91B, roads to the center of communes and wards of Thoi An, Dong Binh, Truong Xuan, Truong Xuan A, Thoi Hung, Thoi Dong, Trung Thanh, Phu Thu, Tan Phu Hung Thanh, etc; the generator team 1 of O Mon Electric Power Centre, Hoa Binh Book Supermarket, Co.op Mart, Tay Do Plaza, Vinatex, Bestcarings Household Appliances Centre, Choï Lon Household Appliances Centre, Cai Rang Market; Thot Not Industrial and Small-industrial Centre (stages I and II), Tra Noc II Industrial Park, etc.

 

- Social infrastructure:

Several major works have been completed and put into operation, such as stone embankments of Cai Khe Isle, Central General Hospital, Blood Transfusion and Haematology Center, Preventive Health Center, general hospitals of Thot Not, Vinh Thanh, Phong Dien, Thoi Lai; Scientific and Technological Document Information Center, Can Tho City Cultural Center, O Mon District Cultural Center, Can Tho City urban upgrading project (stage 1), Physical Training and Sports College, Tay Do University, Public Health College, high schools of Cai Rang, Nguyen Viet Dung, Phan Ngoc Hien, Thot Not (stage II); primary schools of Le Quy Don, Mac Dinh Chi, Vo Truong Toan, etc., Can Tho Broadcasting and Television Technological Center, residential areas of 91B, 586, Dieu Hien, Long Thònh, Cai Khe Isle, Khuong Isle, Cai Son-Hang Bang, Thoi Nhut Resettlement Area, the resettlement areas serving the provincial road 923 and Thot Not Rice Market, residential areas for avoiding flood, etc.
