Field Trip Mission in Thailand and Malaysia within SME Support Program

VIETRADE - The Program “Decentralized Trade Support Services for Strengthening the International Competitiveness of Vietnamese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)” is a technical cooperation project financed by the Government of Switzerland and implemented over a four-year period (2013 – 2017). The Program is managed by Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the National Execution modality (NEX).

 

Referring to workplan of the Program, the Program Management Unit (PMU) organized a field mission for selected VIETRADE departments to visit and work with the respective departments of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) in Bangkok, Thailand and the National Trade Promotion Agency in Malaysia (MATRADE). The main purpose of this field trip is to benchmark and audit reference TPO models on building SME international competitiveness, and to gather inspiring success stories to use as development models for SME competitiveness.

VIETRADE in collaboration with Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Trade Office of both countries in Vietnam to build Vietnamese delegation’s working schedule. On the occasion, Vietnamese delegation have meeting with functional divisions and offices, 02 businesses in both countries to find out how to assist businesses in improving export competitiveness capacity. The meeting focus on exchanging expertise, studying successful models and best real practices from partners, giving recommendations to support PMU to build implementation plan in main phrase (2015-2017).

 

In Thailand, the mission met Deputy Director General of DITP and worked with functional divisions including: the office trade information resources and e-business, the office of public relations, the office of international trade strategy and planning, international trade training institute, the office of product value promotion and Srithai Superwave enterprise.

 

In Malaysia, the Deputy Director General of MATRADE introduced directly the functions, missions and trade promotion activities plan to support enterprises. Both side exchanged experiences about trade promotion activities between Vietnam and Malaysia such as: providing services on trade information and consultancy, export coaching for enterprises, business partner searching program, trade transaction program, trade fair & exhibition, trade missions, releasing publications and events.

Through the meeting with DITP and MATRADE, the delegation acquired useful results from two of successful trade promotion models in region, especially experiences about organizing and implementing export coaching for enterprises and other forms of effective trade promotion activities.

 

The members from Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho in the delegation initially approached more information, knowledge of two above models and proposed the changes in the organization activities in coming time to effectively cooperate with VIETRADE and strengthen export promotion cooperation with DITP and MATRADE.
