VIETRADE - Mineral

Mineral resources in Binh Duong are rather various, particularly in non – metal mineral resources which are magma base and specific sediment. They are resources supplying materials for traditional and strong industries of the province such as ceramic, construction materials, and mine exploitation. A result from a geological survey in 82 small and big mines shows that Binh Duong has 9 mineral resources including kaolin, clay, and kinds of construction stone, construction sand, gravel, literate and peat.

Peat, a kind of burning material group, is distributed along valleys of the rivers of Sai Gon, Dong Nai and Thi Tinh. Its reserve is not much. Its peat’s quality is low. It is used to produce aerobe microorganism fertilizers instead of burning materials. There are 9 mines, among which only Tan Ba mine has 0.705 million cubic meters in reserve.

There are 23 mines, which has 300-320 million tons in reserve, of which 15 ones have been exploited and have supplied materials for ceramic, and have been used as industrial additive for domestic and foreign production companies.

Large reserve mines – Dat Cuoc, Chanh Luu, Binh Hoa, are well – known. Kaolin in Binh Duong has an average quality because of high iron content and low aluminum one.

There are 23 mines, which are over 1 billion cubic meters in reserve clay. Clay is formed from which sediment base is rather plentiful in reserve and distributed in many places in the province. Apart from being used to manufacture common bricks and tiles, almost high quality clay mines may be used for higher value products such as dressing bricks and tiles, ground tiles, color powder, and mixed materials for ceramic and extra materials for other production industries.

Some enterprises have exploited the materials in mines of My Phuoc, Tan Phuoc Khanh, Phuoc Thai, and Khanh Binh... in industrial scale. In addition to this, there remain popular small exploitations.

Construction rocks

Eruptive construction rocks, which have about 30 million cubic meters in reserve, has been surveyed in Di An. Grain construction rocks, which have about 200 mil-lion cubic meters in reserve, are found in Phu Giao and can be found more in other places. Construction rocks in the Dray Linh layer have been exploited in Tan Uyen.

Construction sand

Construction sand, which is distributed along the rivers of Sai Gon, Dong Nai, and Thi Tinh, has about 25 million cubic meters in reserve, of which 20% can be used for construction and 80% for ground leveling. Construction sand has been exploited in the areas of Rua and Binh Chanh  islands.

Forest area remains 18,527 hectares, of which 3,905 hectares of protective forest in Nui Cau mountain is a largest area. Natural forests – mainly young trees – are

scattered in the north Province, which does not meet environmental protection, protective forests and does not provide forestry products. Young plants have been collectively and scattered grown by people in recent years, so bare hills have been covered with forestry plants and long-term industrial plants.

Transportation: Binh Duong is near Ho Chi Minh City, so it is convenient to use the city’s infrastructure such as airports, seaport, and transportation roads, and the province center is 30km away from Tan Son Nhat airport and Sai Gon port, 110-115km from Vung Tau beach (Thi Vai, Ben Dinh, Sao Mai), and 65-70km from Long Thanh airport.

Roads and rails: Binh Duong has a road transportation system which connects national roads of N0 1A, N0 13, N0 14, N0 22, N0 27, highways of Bien Hoa – Tan Uyen –national road N0 13 to the Trans - Asia trail in the future (Ho Chi Minh – Pnompenh – BangKok) which runs along the south to the north Binh Duong, and connects industry - urban area to material areas of the province and central highlands. In recent years, Binh Duong has upgraded and repaired its important transportation routes such as national road N0 13, provincial roads of DT743, DT 745, DT 746, DT 747, inter district roads and inter village ones to meet the needs of people traveling and socio – economy development in here.

Waterway: The rivers of Sai Gon and Dong Nai are the 2 important routes of waterway. Binh Duong has 2 river ports of Ba Lua, Binh An, and sub port of Lai Thieu.

Water: The province has 2 water works – one in Thu Dau Mot and the other in Di An district. They have total capacity of 56,000 cubic meters, which meet the needs of life and production in the province.

One of the right policies of Binh Duong in the last time is to “spread a red carpet” to invite investors and talents from the province, so it has increased its own industrial production by establishing series of industrial parks which perform their activities very quickly. Industries which develop rapidly and gain a high proportion in the value of industrial production are agro – forestry product processing, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering; chemicals, the garment and textile, leather shoes, ceramic and building materials.
