Land resources

Total natural area of Quang Nam is 1.040.683 ha, shaped from nine types of different land, including: sand dunes and coastal sand, alluvial soil of river, alluvial soil of sea, gray soil, yellow-red soil, valley land, infertile soil eroded rocks,etc, riparian alluvial soil group is the most important for developing food crops and short-term industry crops. Yellow-red soil group of mountainous region is very favorable for forestation, industry crops and long-term fruit trees. Coastal sand is being exploited for aquaculture. In total area 1.040.683 ha, forestry land area makes up the largest proportion (49,4%), next is the agricultural land, tenure land and specialized land. Barren land area, unused coastal sandy land is great deal.

 

Forest resources

Quang Nam province has 425.921 ha forest, coverage proportion achieves 40.9%; wood reserves of province are about 30 million m3. The natural forest area is 388.803 ha, artificial forest is 37,118 ha. Rich forest is about 10 thousand ha, distributed in the high mountains, the remaining are poor forests, medium forest and secondary forest with wood reserves of 69 m3/ha. Aquaculture resources

Quang Nam province owns the coastline of over 125 km and big continental shelf, abundant seafood of the South Central Coastal Region. According to the data of Institute of fisheries Planning, fish reserves of the South Central Coastal region are 42 ten thousand tons, annual fishing capacity is 20 tens thousand tons, cuttle-fish reserves are 7,000 tons, sea shrimp are 4,000 tons. Thereby, it shows that Quang Nam province is favorable for development of offshore fishing industry as well as exploitation of aquaculture potential in riverside and coastal areas and Cu Lao Champ island, etc.

 

Mineral resources

As generally assessed, mineral resources of Quang Nam province is very potential and diversified, which can bring high economic effects to the province. Of which, remarkably: coal in Nong Son with reserves of 10 million tons, which has been exploited with the highest yield of approximately 5 ten thousand tons/ year. In addition, Ngoc Kinh coal pit has the reserve of 4 million tons) but was stopped working since 1994 due to its poor capacity of industrial exploitation. Pure gold and placer in Bong Mieu, Du Hiep, Tra Duong; particularly in Bong Mieu, several hundreds kilograms of gold has been exploited annually. Reserves of white sand is big, mainly distributed in Thang Binh, Nui Thanh districts. In Quang Nam province, 18 mines of high quality mineral water, fresh water has been detected.

 

Other minerals such as methane, uranium, raw materials for cement production (limestone) are assessed to be the richest in the Southern provinces. Furthermore, such other minerals as granite, clay, titan, tin, kaolin, mica and others served for construction industry are equally allocated in many areas in the province.

Tourism resources

Quang Nam Province owns 125 km coastline and beautiful beaches in Dien Ban, Hoi An, Tam Ky, stretching from Dien Ngoc to near Dung Quat Bay, Phu Ninh River, Duy Sown Hydropower Plant, virgin forest to the West of Quang Nam, Yangtze River and Cu Lao Cham island. In addition, Quang Nam province also has 15 big and small island, 10 rivers (with 6,000ha of water surface, 11,000ha forest surrounding the river and 40 islands in rivers), which is a great potential for tourism development in Quang Nam. The environment are fresh, gently sloping, fine sand, medium salinity, green sea water and ideal climate which all are very convenient for developing maritime tourism and weekend relax.

 

In addition to two world cultural heritages as Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary recognized by UNESCO, Quang Nam province is also famous for many cultural and historical relics (according to the statistics, Quang Nam province has about 61 tourism areas such as: Tra Kieu Ancient Capital, Cham Towers in Khuong My, Chien Dan, Bang An, Dong Duong Buddhism Institute etc, recording the splendid marks of Sa Huynh, Champa, Dai Viet cultures) and many kinds of cultural activities (Tuong sing, Doi sing) and other architectural complex as Nui Thanh, etc, all strongly attracting the tourists. Furthermore, trade villages of traditional handicrafts and farms, waters still remain the typical characteristics of Vietnamese village, ideal for development of countryside tourism, garden tourism, diversifying kinds of tourism and increasing the attraction for the visitors. The natural factors joint with the world cultural heritages, historical relics of Quang Nam province are the precious natural resources, facilitating strong development of tourism.

 

Hydropower potentials

River network located in Quang Nam province has a total length of 900 km, of which 337 km were put into operation, including nine major rivers. Large surface water area with the basin of Vu Gia river : 5,500km2, Thu Bon river 3,350 km2, Tam Ky 800 km2, Cu De 400km2, Tuy Loan 300 km2, Lili 280 km2, the flow of Vu Gia river is 400m3 / s, Thu Bon: 200m3/s, etc. It can be said that Quang Nam province has favorable conditions of water supply for the development of agriculture and other economic sectors and the people as well.

 

Quang Nam River's current always changes, rotates, deposits or erodes in the flood season. It is important to construct irrigation works in the upstream of rivers in combination with construction of medium and smallscaled hydropower plants (Song Tranh I, Song Tranh II. A Vuong, Bung Hydropower Plants, etc.) to reduce flood and provide water to the coastal plains in the dry season, setting the sustainable basis for development of agriculture, industry, tourism, urban area and clean water of residential areas.( end)
