VIETRADE - NATURAL RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT POTENTIALS

Land resources

According to the results of land mapping survey belonging to the classification system of FAO-UNESCO, with the area of 513,688.14 ha, Quang Ngai has 9 main soil groups consisting of 25 soil units and 68 units of auxiliary soil. 9 main soil groups are: sand-bank, coastal sandy soil, saline soil, alluvial soil, glay soil gray soil, barren soil, muck soil, cracked soil, rock-exposure erosive soil. In particular, gray soil has an important role (accounting for 74.65% of the natural land) suitable for long-term industrial crops, specialty crops, herbs, livestock and alluvial soils of the lower land of the rivers (making up 19.3% of the natural land), suitable for rice growing, short-term industrial crops, vegetables.

 

The land area of Quang Ngai province allowed to be used includes 322,034.59 ha of agricultural land (62.5% natural land), 45,636.2 ha of non-agricultural land (8.86% natural land) and 147,595.9 ha of unused land (28.64% natural land).

 

Forest resources

Quang Ngai forest is rich in forestry, native products with a variety of timbers such as: rosewood, Disoxylum loureiri, Syringa , Madhuca pasquieri, Hopea pierrei, etc, the total timber volume is 9.8 million m3. Compared with other provinces in the Central Coastal Region, natural forests of Quang Ngai are very little, most of them are medium and poor forests, however, if compared to the reserves (per 1 ha), the reserves of Quang Ngai forests are higher than the national average.

 

Mineral resources

Mineral resources are not diversified in types, majority are minerals serving for building material industry, mineral water and some other minerals. The minerals which can be exploited in the next 10 years are: graphite with reserves of about 4 million tons, particularly, 2.5 million tons are allowed to exploit, the average carbon content is 20%, somewhere 24% in Son Tinh district; silimanhit with reserves of 1 million tons, allocated in Hung Nhuong (Son Tinh); peat coal in Binh Phu (Binh Son) with reserves of 476 thousand m3; kaolin in Son Tinh with reserve of approximately 4 million tons. Building stones consist of kinds of stones as a building materials, road paving, wall facing, flooring with the reserves of over 7 billion m3, allocated in Duc Pho, Tra Bong, and some other districts; mineral water in Thach Bich (Tra Bong), Duc Lan (Mo Duc), Nghia Thuan (Tu Nghia) and Son Tinh.

Marine and coastal resources

With a coastline of 144 km and territorial waters of 11,000 km2, 6 estuaries, abundant seafood resources, Quang Ngai has a rich potential to develop from the marine economic development, especially to exploit a volume of approximately 68,000 tons of all kinds of pelagic fish effectively. This is also the key economic sector of the province. With six coastal districts and an island district, it is possibly said that Quang Ngai archipelago is much potential of landscapes, topography, historical relics, traditional festivals, and is one of the provinces owing a long and beautiful coastline, very wide exploiting and aquaculture area. In particular, Ly Son island still keeps the images of the old war hero team sailing into the East Sea, setting the first sacred sovereignty stones on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes.

 

Tourist resources

Quang Ngai province has Sa Huynh cultural relics, Thien An pagoda, Chau Sa ancient citadel, which are the important historical and cultural vestiges of the pre-historical, ancient - medieval times. Quang Ngai province also conserves a lot of facts and important evidences in the modern revolutionary fighting history such as: Son My evidences, Dam Toai Tunnels in Binh Chau commune, Ba To Insurrection, Gravestone of Huynh Thuc Khang strong-willed patriotic scholar etc. In addition, Quang Ngai provinces has 144 km of coastline with such poetic landscapes which are very suitable for tourism development as Sa Huynh beach, My Khe beach, Dung Quat pool, Ba Lang An sea, Co Luy hamlet, etc. Situated in the Eastern coast of the province is Ly Son island with plentiful of wonderful natural landscapes, is the Eastern land area of the province - the homeland of Hoang Sa "war heroes" in the past, is the "kingdom" of garlic cultivation and offshore fishing, is also a potential "key tourist area" with pristine beaches, many cultural historical relics and busy wharves, etc attracting the visitors.

 

Cultural heritages

Quang Ngai province has a long-standing historical traditions, it is the origin of Sa Huynh culture and key area of Champa culture, owns two famous scenic spots as "An mountain, Tra river". In particular, Quang Ngai province has the longest bastion in Vietnam built since the 16th century, stretching along the Western midland of the province to Binh Dinh province. This works has been recognized as the national cultural historical relics. Furthermore, Quang Ngai province is the homeland of Famous Man, Famous Generals such as: Truong Dinh, Le Trung Dinh, Pham Van Dong; and some reputable intellectuals, writers, poets, musicians, artists as Bich Khe, Te Hanh , People's Artist Tra Giang, Truong Quang Luc, The Bao, Nhat Sinh , etc. Quang Ngai also has such special cultural festivals taking place throughout the year as: Wale Worship festival, Hoang Sa Troop Feasting Festival (Ly Son), Buffalo Thrusting Festival, Sa Huynh Praying for Fish Festival, Boat Racing Festival.(end)
