Natural resources and development potential of Binh Dinh Province PDF Print

VIETRADE - Binh Dinh is a coastal province sitting in the Key Economic Region of Central Vietnam. It borders Quang Ngai Province to the north, Phu Yen Province to the south, Gia Lai Province to the west, and fronting the East Sea to the east. It  is 1,065km distant from Hanoi capital, 690km distant from HoChiMinh City, 300km away from Danang City and 180km from Pleiku City (Gia Lai).



- Kinds of stones and granite are used as high-quality building materials (particularly, red and yellow granite are only available in Binh Dinh province), reserves are about 700 million m3, mainly available near traffic roads.

- Ilmenite: reserves are about 2.5 million tons, mainly available in Phu My, Phu Cat and Hoai Nhon districts.

- Bauxite in Vinh Thanh: reserves are about 150 million tons of crude ore.

- Sand and white sand: allocated along seashore and in valleys, alluvial grounds of shallow river beds with the quantity of 14 million m3.

- There are 5 mineral streams in Hoi Van, Chanh Thang (Phu Cat), Dinh Quang, Vinh Thinh (Vinh Thanh), Long My (Quy Nhon). Particularly, Long My hot mineral water satisfies the international standard, possible to exploit 50 million liters/year.

- Kaolin: available in Phu Cat and Long My (Quy Nhon) districts, the reserves are about 25 million tons.

- Clay: reserves are about 13.5 million m3, mainly available in Tay Son, An Nhon, Tuy Phuong, Hoai Nhon districts, etc...

- Gold: potential of original gold in all locations is about 22 tons, available in Hoai An, Vinh Thanh, Tay Son districts.



Binh Dinh owns 185,884 ha of natural forest with timber reserves of 10 million m3, 64,850 ha of artificial forest. Forestry land is about 250,734ha, which can be developed into material area to serve for timber and paper processing industry. The natural resources below foliage and forest flora and fauna are plentiful.



The coastline of Binh Dinh province is 134km in  length, the area of territorial waters is 2,500km2 and over 40,000km2 of exclusive economic zone with abundant marine resources such as: mackerel, tuna, shrimp, cuttle-fish, bird's nests, lobster, king crab etc.. which are popular in inland and foreign markets. There are now more than 8,108 motor boats with total capacity of 577,646 CV (particularly, offshore fishing makes up 55%), the fishermen are rich of skills, experiences in fishing nationwide. The annual fishing capacity is 120,000 tons.


The natural blackish water area is 7,600ha (of which including: Thi Nai lagoon: 5,060ha, De Gi lagoon: 1,600ha, Tam Quan river mouth: 400ha...), and thousand of hectares of salinity agricultural land with precarious rice productivity, coastal sandy soil may be changed for aquaculture such as sugpo prawn, white shrimp, grouper, snapper, blood cockles, oysters, crabs, seaweed etc...


Natural fresh water area is 5,176ha, including natural lagoon, river, reservoirs, hydropower reservoirs, small lakes, farm etc... (particularly, Chau Truc lagoon is 1,200ha). It is possible to develop freshwater aquaculture such as: turtle, tortoise, ebony eels, giant freshwater prawn, kinds of fish.


Aquatic product processing industry of the province consists of 6 frozen seafood processing plants with total capacity of 35 tons/day and total annual export value of approximately 30 million USD.


There are now 4 fish ports in Binh Dinh province: Nhon Chau, Tam Quan, De Gi and Quy Nhon fish ports, 17 shipbuilding facilities with annual capacity of new shipbuilding of 800 fishing boats, repairing thousands of boats. Some facilities are capable of building the ship of 500-700 CV and applying the composite coating technology for hull.



Binh Dinh is the land of martial arts, the origination and capital city of Tay Son Farmers Movement at the late of 18th century associated with the resounding reputation of the plain-cloths hero – King Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue. It is also the motherland and nurturing talents such as Dao Tan, Han Mac Tu, Xuan Dieu, Che Lan Vien, Yen Lan; the native soil of various traditional art forms including classical drama, Bai Choi singing. Binh Dinh was an ancient capital of the Kingdom of Champa with preserved heritages like Do Ban town and Champ Towers (7 clusters, 14 towers) characterized by unique architectural art.




It has the long-lasting seaside, various bays with beautiful beaches and harmonious marine tourist attractions such as Tam Quan, Tan Thanh, Vinh Hoi, Trung Luong, Hai Giang, Swallow Island, Queen Beach, Quy Hoa, Bai Dai, and so on. The Province is investing in promoting tourist, especially constructing infrastructure for tourism.

There are 105 hotels in Binh Dinh (four 4-star hotels – resorts, two 3-star hotels), totally more than 2,446 rooms, of which 1,536 rooms satisfying international standard. Some resorts, hotel of 4-5 star are planned to be built. 9 tourist companies are operating.


Binh Dinh has 231 relics, of which 33 relics are ranked by Ministry of Culture – Information (current Ministry of Culture – Sports and Tourism), 55 ones are ranked by the provincial People’s Committee.

Trade villages: Bau Da Wine, Fine Arts Wood, Pottery, Go Lang hat, Phuong Danh Forging Village, Song Thang Vermicelli, girdle cake of coconut milk, rice paper of sesame, ..

Cuisine: fine rice vermicelli with pork, glutinous rice cake dyked black in a concoction of leaves, Bau Da wine, Song Thang vermicelli, fermented pork roll of Cho Huyen, girdle cake with coconut juice.
