Promoting product design and market access to South Koea PDF Print

VIETRADE – In recent years, Korea has continued as one of the leading potential markets for Vietnamese enterprises. In order to support Vietnamese associations and enterprises in exploring Korean market as well as seek business opportunities, Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) – VIETRADE, Vietnam Trade Office in Korea and Korean Institute Design Promotion (KIDP) held Vietnamese delegation from 08th to 13rd November 2014. This delegation included representatives from associations and enterprises which were interested in developing product designs and seeking trade partners in Korea.


With the great support and cooperation of KIDP (Ministry of Economy, Industry and Energy), the delegation achieved an effective visit to the Korean Design Fair, a outstanding event in the field of design industry, held annually since 2003 by Korea’s Ministry of Economy, Industry and Energy. This Fair showed the latest design trends in Korea and other countries. All members of delegation were attracted by both sophisticated design of exhibit items and innovative decoration ideas. Some business representatives, thus, expressed their desire to decorate booths with such impressive designs at international trade fairs & exhibitions in the future.


Notably, after visiting the Fair, the Vietnamese Delegation had a busy working-day with two typical design companies, i.e. “Sam Partners” and “Purumeda”. Both of them are the famous ones in the field of design industry and have constituted remarkable achievements. Mr. Huynjoo Kim, Director of Sam Partners, which is the leading company specializing in branding design in Korea, shared the major design projects being carried out by the company as well as his experience on packaging and branding design to meet customers’ order.


The delegation also had visit to Purumeda, a company specializes in tea production. Its products are being widely sold in the duty-free shops at Incheon International Airport and Olive Young chain store of CJ Corporation in Korea. Vietnamese companies were attracted by spectacular results which Puruma achieved 1 year after it launched new products.


Mrs. Boyoung Sueok, the designer and manager of Purumeda company, had over 15-year experience in packaging design at Dong Suh Food Company, which is the leading one in food industry of Korea. Designs made by Ms. Sueok make customers extremely impressive and sway them to buy products even at a glance. Admittedly, designing is amazing tool to improve product’s performance, increase value addition and gain customers’ trust in such a short time.

Coming up on “Design Capacity Improvement, Product Development Program” held by VIETRADE and KIDP in Hanoi, Mr. Kim and Mrs. Sueok are going to attend to share their valuable knowledge and experience in packaging and product design with many Vietnamese enterprises. This, therefore, is great opportunity for Vietnam’s enterprises which are lack of innovative ideas and eager for learning new expertise in their field.


Within the framework of program, the delegation visited Vietnam Trade Office in Korea, Mr. Chu Thang Trung – Commercial Counsellor presented useful information on food imports into Korea such as import procedures and import barriers which Vietnamese enterprises may cope with. Many companies expressed their desire for receiving support and cooperation from Vietnam Trade Office in Korea in order to help them gain closer access to Korean market and find potential trade partners.


After working with Vietnam Trade Office in Korea, Vietnam delegation had meeting with Korea Importers Associations (KOIMA). On this occasion, Mr. Sung Hoon Kang – leader of international cooperation department of KOIMA, gave speech on introducing organizational structure and basic activities which were being carried out. Besides, KOIMA annually holds Korean Delegation to explore Vietnam market and find reliable suppliers from Vietnam. Especially, from 04th to 06th December 2014, KOIMA is going to lead the Korean delegation including more than 20 importers to Hanoi for business matching program.


Also, every year KOIMA holds Imports Fair in Seoul, the only one in Korea specializing in imported goods, with the participation of international exhibitors from developing countries who are looking for potential trade partners in Korea. Mr. Kang noted that in coming years KOIMA hopes to receive much more registration of Vietnam exhibitors in this Fair.


Furthermore, Vietnam delegation had meeting with the leaders of COEX and visits to Seoul Food Show 2014 – Korea Food Week 2014, held from 12th to 15th November 2014, with more than 1,800 booths from 30 territories and countries over the world. In this Fair, Vietnamese enterprises had a business matching with Korean partners and hoped to have positive results in near future.


The mission to Korea brought impressive results for Vietnam enterprises and opened to bilateral trade cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Korea in the coming times.
