Meeting on the field-trip in Thailand and Malaysia & introducing 2015’s workplan PDF Print E-mail

VIETRADE - Program Management Unit (PMU) of “Decentralized Trade Support Services for Strengthening the International Competitiveness of Vietnamese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)” Program hold the meeting to report the results of field trip in Thailand and Malaysia and introduce proposed work plan on Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE)’s capacity improvement within the Program on 28th January 2015 at 20 Ly Thuong Kiet, Ha Noi. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Bui Huy Son – General Director of VIETRADE with the representatives from functional deparments and centres under VIETRADE, international consultant, senior technical adviser and PMU.

The Program is a technical cooperation project financed by the Government of Switzerland and implemented over a four-year period (2013 – 2017). The Program is managed by Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the National Execution modality (NEX).


According to the cooperation agreement between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Switzerland about the SME Support Program on 31st May 2013, evaluation period of the Program’s inception phase (6/2013 – 9/2014) was implemented from 14th to 26th September 2014. On the basis of recommendations proposed by evaluation team and approved by the donor, PMU organized Vietnamese official delegation to explore and apply modality of Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Thailand and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysia on strengthening SMEs export competitiveness capacity.


Opening the meeting, representatives from PMU highly appreciated the contributions of office leaders and center leaders under VIETRADE to the study research and look forward to receiving the ideas to complete the proposed capacity improvement plan for VIETRADE in main phrase (2015 -2017).


The participants listened to each member in the delegation to brief the new expertise and results that they acquired about brand, design, e-commercial, training and consultancy from meetings with adequate functional offices and division at DITP and MATRADE.


After PMU presented proposed workplan in main phrase, all participants discussed and contributed their ideas to finalize the plan in order to enhance VIETRADE’s capacity as well as national trade promotion network. The majority ideas focused on applying experiences on organizing and implementing training activities as well as effective trade promotion modality for Thailand and Malaysian businesses. In particular, the opinions agree that to become the leading trade promotion agency in Vietnam, VIETRADE must improve its capacity on trade promotion skills first, after that support and guide the provincial trade promotion centers.


At the end of meeting, Son highly appreciated the ideas from participants and proposed PMU to finalize the plan, especially paid attention to medium & long-term activities to ensure sustainability.
