VIETRADE - Workshop on the introduction of SME Support Program workplan in main phrase (2015-2017) in Central Vietnam within the Program “Decentralized Trade Support Services for Strengthening the International Competitiveness of Vietnamese Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)” was held on 19st January 2015 in Da Nang Trade Promotion Center, No 6, Tran Quy Cap, Hai Chau district.


The participants are representatives from trade promotion centers in Central Vietnam, Vietnam Chamber of Commercial and Industry in Da Nang (VCCI), Can Tho Cooperative Alliance (VCA) and other associations.


The Program is a technical cooperation project financed by the Government of Switzerland through ODA and implemented over a four-year period (2013 – 2017). The Program is managed by Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) under the National Execution modality (NEX).

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy – Deputy Director of SME Support Program highly appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the representatives from trade promotion organizations (TPOs) and looked forward to receiving ideas from localities in Central to complete the workplan. The Program, therefore, could be implemented to support enterprises and operate effectively and be replicated after its finish. The PMU also briefed main activities that were implemented already in the inception phrase.


After the presentation on the proposed workplan in main phrase, the participants discussed and contributed their ideas to finalize the workplan. The majority ideas focus on: strengthening competitiveness of SMEs, building capacity on trade promotion network, activities of the Programme Consultative Committee (PCC) and Technical Working Group (TWG), building materials and training course on promotion skills, improving TPOs’s capacity on product and service development, coaching SMEs’ export skills on selected sectors of the Program.

The selected product categories within in framework of the program are litchi, tea (North), tuna, pepper (Central), Trafish, fruits (Southwest), handicraft, logistics services and tourism (National).


finishing the three workshop in three selected regions, based on the suggestions from localities, PMU would complete proposed general plan for all three selected regions (Northern, Central and Southern) to report at a meeting with National Steering Committee (NSC) on 29th January 2015
