Enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises through innovative design PDF Print

VIETRADE – Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) in collaboration with Malaysian Design Council (MRM) co-organized the Packaging Design Workshop during 26th – 28th August 2015 in Hanoi. The workshop focused on the topics of packaging design, brand design and local specialty products design.

Giving the speech at the opening, Mr. Ta Hoang Linh – Deputy Director of VIETRADE stated “With the major trend towards global economic integration, Vietnamese goods as well as companies now have to deal with tough competition not only in international market but also in domestic market, which is obviously inevitable. Thus, constant improvement and development on the quality as well as value addition of products are necessary. In addition, one of the significant factors enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam products is innovative design ideas, particularly packaging ideas. For those reasons, the workshop is designed to help Vietnamese enterprises raise their awareness of the importance on the design and accumulate gradually knowledge and skills.”

The participation of foreign and local professors in design fields as senior lectures of training course created a positive classroom atmosphere, which made participants fell motivated. Mr. Omar Bin Osman, a leading design expert from Malaysia, has been working in the design fields for almost 40 years. He has been a design consultants in many design competitions and talent shows in Malaysia and other countries in the world; in addition, Omar currently has been the Creative Director of Malaysian Osquare Advertising Group. Ms. Tran Thi Cam Anh, who has been a design expert, has already gave consultants in various design programs in Vietnam.


The course attracted more than 150 participants from Hanoi and other provinces in Vietnam, including northern provinces, such as: Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa,…. ; central and southern provinces. The participants all engaged in the course, get excited in group tasks, group discussion, idea contribution and knowledge exchange about the content of program. The course designed was extremely exciting and amazing for both participants and lecturers.

In addition to provide knowledge, the course gave opportunities for participating enterprises to practice real tasks related to brand and packaging design, especially designing for local specialty products such as tea, coffee, food products… Besides, the experts took their time to go on field trip to visit Vietnamese firms, gave them a pieces of advice on a well-defined brand, innovating product packaging and building professionally-developed visual identity that is suitable for companies, contributing to production activities and export capacity.

Although the course finished, knowledge and skills that had been accumulated from this course would probably help these participating firms raise their awareness of brand development and building professionally-developed visual identity. Thereby, these experiences are likely to improve the competitive of Vietnamese firms and create a buzz as well as make contribution to the development of the design industrial in Vietnam./.
