Domestic rubber sector accelerates trade promotion amid challenges PDF Print

VIETRADE – Vietnam's rubber industry is speeding up trade promotion with top priority given to joining trade fairs and exhibitions despite challenges it has encountered due to the world rubber market’s sluggish recovery and slow growth of the domestic market.


Participating to domestic and overseas trade fairs and exhibitions would be good opportunities for local rubber enterprises to advertise their trademarks and products to domestic and foreign customers, update latest technologies as well as expand their markets, Vo Hoang An, vice chairman and general secretary of the Vietnam Rubber Association said.

 

An cited the forthcoming International Exhibition on Rubber Industry and Tyre Manufacturing (Rubber and Tyre Vietnam) in HCM City as a good example.

 

To be held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre from June 13 to 15, the fifth exhibition would see more than 80 local and international exhibitors displaying their latest equipment and technologies and products and services.

 

The event would help them get up-to-date on technologies and products and build new relationships, the vice chairman noted.

 

The domestic sector, as well as global natural rubber exports, had faced with a range of difficulties due to a continued decline in prices lasting from 2012 to 2016, Nhan Dan Newspaper quoted the association’s chairman Tran Ngoc Thuan as saying.

 

However, most Vietnamese enterprises and rubber farmers had sought to maintain production, apply advanced technologies to lower costs and increase productivity in addition to accelerating trade promotion to foster exports.

 

Thanks to their great efforts, Vietnam’s rubber export saw a year-on-year increase of 9.2% to reach US$1.67 billion in 2016.

 

In the first four months of 2017, the rubber industry brought home US$611 million, representing a significantly yearly rise of 66%. During the period. China, South Korea and Malaysia remained the three largest rubber importers of Vietnam’s rubber, accounting for more than 70% of the country’s total export value.

 

Vietnam rubber trademark announced

Vietnam’s rubber industry marked a milestone late last year as Vietnamese rubber trademark “Vietnam Rubber” was officially announced after two years of administrative procedures.

 

Products with Vietnamese rubber labels reflected commitments to quality standards of domestic producers, which would provide stronger safeguards for Vietnamese exported goods.

Trade experts said that in the context of fiercer competition among rubber-exporting countries, the use of the “Vietnam Rubber” trademark would help improve the sector’s competitiveness and Vietnamese enterprises’ reputation, in addition to building trust among foreign partners selecting rubber imported from Vietnam.

 

Currently, the Vietnam Rubber Association has registered for intellectual property of the Vietnamese rubber products in the Indian, Chinese and Taiwanese markets and would continue procedures to legalize the trademark in others.

 

Six businesses have been received the trademark certification, including Phuoc Hoa, Dong Nai, Hang Gon and Dau Tieng rubber companies./.
