VIETRADE – Phones and phone parts took the lead in export revenue in the first 10 months of this year with US$36.5 billion, up 28.8% over same period last year and accounting for 21% of the country’s total export revenue, according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The exports of phones and phone components reached US$5 billion in October alone, surging 76.4% year-on-year. This was considered as one of the months when these products recorded the highest export revenue thus far.

The October’s phone and phone part outbound sales also doubled those of electronics, computers and components at US$2.43 billion and of textile and garment products at US$2.3 billion, according to the data.

Among major markets for Vietnamese phones and phone parts included the European Union countries with a revenue of US$9.14 billion, up 14.2% year-on-year; the United Arab Emirates with US3.04 billion and the United States with US$2.89 billion, the Republic of Korea with US$2.85 billion, China with US$2.42 billion and Austria with US$2.24 billion.

Other markets with encouraging export growths were Cambodia, Brazil, Japan, Columbia and the Philipphines.

The Ministry attributable the period’s positive export performance to the fact that the Republic of Korea-invested Samsung Display project, which was approved to raise capitals early this year, has exported its first batch of  products.

Given increasing investments by phone producers and phone component suppliers, analysts have forecast phones and phone components will continue to be the biggest contributor to Vietnam’s export revenue this year as the exports are projected to climb to US$40 billion.

Last year, phones and phone components became the biggest export earner with the export revenue rising by 13.8% year-on-year to US$34.3 billion.

With the United States and the European Union being key importers, phones and phone part exports made up 27.1% of the country’s total exports in 2016./.
