The online 13th Annual Meeting of the Council – ASEAN Korea Center PDF Print

On February 9, 2021, with the consent of the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, leaders of the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) and representatives of the Foreign Investment Agency - Ministry of Planning and Investment; Representative of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Affairs in Korea attended the online 13th Annual Meeting of the Council – ASEAN Korea Center.

In the context of the complicated Covid-19 epidemic, the 13th Annual Meeting of the Council this year was held online and focused on discussing a number of key contents:

- Dr. May Fa’ezah Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Finance and

Economy of Brunei Darussalam shall assume the role as the New Chair, as tasked to the current Chair of ASEAN.

- Mr. Sim Vireak, Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia will be Vice-Chair, as tasked to the ASEAN Chair for 2022.

- Adoption of Work Program and Budget in 2021;

- The Secretariat reports to the use of budget and activities conducted in FY2020.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Outgoing Chair - Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director General of the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency would like to thank the support of ASEAN member countries and Mr. Lee Hyuk, Ambassador - The Secretary General of the AKC Center spent for Vietnam. In the context that the world economy was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, he highly appreciated the effectiveness of cooperation among AKC member countries in implementing activities, contributing to consolidation and further continue to promote cooperation between ASEAN and Korea as well as support Vietnam in activities organized by the AKC in Trade, Investment, Culture and Tourism.

At the closing session of the Meeting, the AKC agreed:

- Report on activities in 2020;

- Approve the 2021 Budget and Activity Program;

In the coming time, Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency hopes to receive more support from the AKC in connecting and promoting cooperation between enterprises of member countries in the fields of Trade, Investment, Culture and Tourism.

The ASEAN-Korea Center (AKC) was officially established on March 13, 2009 in Seoul, Korea, with members representing 10 ASEAN countries and South Korea. AKC's activities focus on 03 main areas of activity: Trade and investment; culture and tourism to promote cooperation in these three areas between the 10 ASEAN countries and South Korea.
