Overview on Investment


In 2012, Vietnam attracted over US$13 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2012, according to the Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment. Approximately 1,100 new FDI projects amounting to US$7.85 billion were licensed, and 435 on-going projects with the additional registered capital of US$5.15 billion.


The manufacturing and processing sector is the most attractive industry to foreign investors amounting to US$9.1 billion investment, accounting for 70% of the country's total registered capital. The real estate industry followed with US$1.85 billion (14%), and the retail and repair sector came third with US$483 million U.S. dollars (4%).


Japan remained the country's largest FDI investor among 58 countries and territories with total newly registered and expanded capital of US$5.1 billion, accounting for 39.5% of the total figure. Singapore ranked second with US$1.7 billion, followed by South Korea with 1.2 billion dollars.
